Apollo 55000-317APO | Series 65 Optical Smoke Detector
INC VAT
Code: FDS332/045
The Apollo 55000-317APO can be used with most conventional alarm systems. The Series 65 Optical Smoke Detector detects smoke entering the chamber via a pulsing LED located within the housing of the detector.
Operating Principles
The Series 65 Optical Smoke Detector features a self-extinguishing white polycarbonate case with wind-resistant smoke inlets. Inside, a circuit board holds the optical system on one side and signal processing electronics on the other.
Its sensing chamber, designed as a light-blocking labyrinth with an insect-resistant gauze, houses an infrared LED and a photo-diode with a visible-light filter. Every three seconds, the LED emits modulated light, which does not reach the photo-diode in clear air. When smoke enters, scattered light activates the diode. If detected in two consecutive pulses at two-second intervals, the detector enters alarm mode, increasing current draw and illuminating the LED.
A remote indicator connected to L1 IN and -R will also light up. The control panel must supply 9–33 V DC (minimum 6 V DC in alarm mode with at least 10 mA current). For proper LED illumination, voltage should exceed 12 V. Resetting requires clearing smoke and interrupting power for at least one second.
Environmental Characteristics
The Optical Smoke Detector is unaffected by wind or atmospheric pressure and operates over the temperature range -20°C to +60°C.
Apollo 55000-317APO
Responds well to slow-burning, smouldering fires
Well suited for bedrooms and escape routes
Unaffected by wind or atmospheric pressure
Flashing LED and magnet operated test switch option available
