Types of Fire Alarm Systems

Fire alarm systems come in three main types: conventional systems with simple zone-based wiring, addressable systems with loop circuits that precisely identify device locations, and wireless systems that eliminate the need for extensive cabling by using radio frequency communication.

Conventional Fire Alarm Systems

Conventional fire alarm systems are ideal for smaller, lower-risk businesses. Available with separate sounders (4-wire) or built-in sounders (bi-wire) Division of your premises is only available when allocating broader zones. These kits will not allow the ability to locate potential fire precise areas.

Addressable Fire Alarm Systems

Larger companies may require an addressable intelligent alarm system. Addressable alarm kits use a unique electronic address which attaches labels to each individual alarm. Hospitals, schools and care homes are also perfect areas for addressable systems.

Recommended anywhere that vulnerable people are present. In the presence of a fire, an addressable system will alert emergency responders to the fire location. Once located, emergency services can sweep the area and ensure everyone is evacuated from the building.

Wireless Fire Alarm Systems

Wireless fire alarms are easy to set up, these alarms act in a similar manner to that of an addressable alarm kit. These fire alarm kits are operable without the need to install wiring. Detection devices and sounders are all connected using wireless links between sensors and the alarm panel. Hybrid wired/wireless systems are also available to easily upgrade existing installations.

Wireless fire alarm kits are suitable for buildings where cabling isn’t appropriate. Historic buildings and churches are among those which should opt for a wireless system.
